American Expats In The UK

Television

In The UK, a television licence is required for every household. Using a TV without the correct licence is a criminal offence and fines will be enforced. If you use a television or other equipment to receive broadcast television programmes such as a TV-enabled computer without a licence, you could face prosecution and a fine of up to £1,000. Please visit the TV Licensing site for all information required to receive your licence.

Typically, most households receive five channels. These are BBC1, BBC2, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5. If you live in an area that has cable access, you will be able to pay and receive more channels. Alternatively, you could try a satellite dish if you are not in a cable access area.
