You should send the completed form, by post, before your permission to stay ends. The application form will give you details of all the documents you will need to send with your application and where you should send it.

If you need to travel urgently you can apply in person at one of the public enquiry offices.

All documents should be originals unless you have a good reason why you cannot produce them with your application. They will not normally accept photocopies.

I know this has been talked about before, but have to bring it up again.
I have to go to the Homeoffice in person because my husband is travelling w/ his visa next week. My visa is up in 3 weeks. Do I need an appointment? Does he need to come with me? Should I wear jeans? Does the HomeOffice ever answer their phone?

The Home Office will not make appointments. You need to get there as early as possible (we are talking 7 - 8am and no later). Then, you will get in line and I believe you will be assigned a number once you go through the line and see the first person at the service window. From there, it is a waiting game until they call your number. I waited 5 hours! But, you can go outside the buildng and check back every 1/2 hour or so to see what number is being served. Doesn't matter what you wear. Just be comfortable.

Kerry's right -- get there very early! My husband and I were there at 7 am on the dot, and by 7.30 there were at least 50 people behind us! They have set up a huge snaking queue outside the office, similar to those you wait in at rollercoasters at amusement parks -- I suggest bringing breakfast and coffee/tea and something to read while you wait. We surprisingly were in the first two dozen to be seen, so we were out by lunchtime -- but the key is to get there earlier than you think you should, and have all the documentation you need and then some!
